CURBSIDE RECYCLING
Recycling at your home Waste Management's curbside recycling program is a result of the environmental commitment that we share with our customers. We are the largest provider of recycling services in Colorado, as well as a national leader in curb-side recycling, with over 600 programs serving over 5.2 million American house-holds. Curbside recycling is the most convenient method for our residential customers to return materials to commerce. This activity does not occur without cost. A second truck and crew collects specific materials from the homes of our recycling customers. The recycled materials are handled repeatedly and transported before they are ultimately used for re-manufacture. This combination of activities increases the cost of re-use and, in some cases, results in higher prices for items that have recycled content. The materials included in our curb-side recycling program are chosen for their ability to be returned to commerce in a method that is economically viable to re-manufacturers. We encourage you to make your purchasing decisions with this in mind In the Denver Metropolitan area, Waste Management of Colorado provides residential services to our customers without charging separate fees for waste collection, curbside-recycling collection, and recycling processing and transportation. Although Waste Management of Colorado will focus on minimizing the costs associated with these services, in the future we may find it necessary to list these fees separately so that you may choose the type of service that is right for you. Where do the recyclables go? As part of Waste Management's nationwide Recycle America program, your recyclables are collected, sorted and baled. They are then shipped by rail and truck to various recycling mills within the U.S. and overseas. Your recyclables are then remanufactured into new products. When are the recyclables picked up? Recycling pick-ups are made every other week on the same day as your trash collection. If your recycling pick-up day falls on a holiday, revise the schedule as you would for your trash pick-ups. As is required for your trash service, recyclables are to be put out by 7:00 a.m. on your scheduled pick-up day. We are unable to provide alley service for recycling. How does the Waste Management recycling program work? Household recycling is easy. Waste Management will supply you with two collection bins for storing your recyclables. The bins are yours to keep and can be picked up at one for the following local Waste Management of Colorado offices for a total cost of $15. Pick up at the Englewood Office: Pick up at the Waste Management North Office: Bin #1 is for newspaper. Place loose newspaper, including the inserts, in the bin. Please bag or bundle excess newspaper. Bin #2 is for recyclable containers such as glass, cans and plastic. Glass - Please remove the lids and rinse the bottles and jars. Ceramics, light bulbs and plate glass cannot be put in the bins for recycling. Cans - All aluminum or tin cans. Plastics - Please rinse and remove lids.
